The Bourne Ultimatum

The third installment of the Bourne series is a thrilling cat and mouse spy game where you have to watch your assets. International intrigue builds as Operation: Treadstone upgrades to Operation: Blackbiar and takes the amnesic Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) from Moscow crisscrossing Europe to Morocco and New York City. Bourne is searching for clues to his real identity and why people are trying to kill him. Bourne is an American 007 who is cool and calm under pressure, smart, quick thinking, and improvisationally clever. The amazing hand to hand combat and the daring demolish derby car chase scenes will keep you on the edge of your seat. David Strathairn and Joan Allen give outstanding performances as CIA heads trying to catch Bourne. Will Bourne solve his mystery? Will he be caught in the CIA web? Will he survive? Will there be a 4th film? Code: 2-15, 3-1, 1-8, 6-1, 8-8b.

Alien gives it 3 ½ “CIA deep cover” stars out of 4.

I Know Who Killed Me

While Alien was visiting the town of Springfield, a scout was sent to check out that Lindsay Lohan movie and here is her report:

"It was great! It was like Stigmata with a twist!. It was kind of wierd and I heard other people say it was confusing. My boyfriend said it was boring." I loved it and give it a 3.7 out of 4! My kind of movie!"

License To Wed

This is not sneak preview. This film has already released.

An engaged couple (John Frasinski and Mandy Moore) suffers through some peculiar prenuptial tests devised by an odd reverend (Robin Williams) before their wedding ceremony. The movie has good intentions, but the couple’s compatibility lessons seem more mean spirited than funny. The film might have worked better if Williams’ character was a wacky marriage counselor instead of a man from the church of comedy.
If you have seen the trailers, then you have already seen the best gags in the movie.

Alien gives it 1 ½ “minister from hell” stars out of 4.

Bratz

It’s “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” meets “Mean Girls” meets “The Devil wears Prada” meets MTV when 4 junior fashionistas enter high school together, but get divided by the pressures of belonging to a clique. Preteen girls will love this “Lizzie McGuire” type movie where hot & hip guys and girls sing and dance to hot & hip music wearing hot & hip clothes. The party scene is quite a circus with extravagance to the max. In the end, the story does have a positive message about friendship and breaking down the walls created by cliques. Wisely, no swollen head Bratz characters appear in the film.

Alien gives it 2 “BFF (best friends forever)” stars out of 4.

Sicko

This not a sneak preview. This film has already released.

Michael Moore is back doing what he does so well, creating extremely entertaining documentaries about his pet peeves on what’s wrong with “the system”. His latest crusade attacks health care in America by comparing it to those in Canada, Britain, France, and Guantanamo Bay. He is very clever in his splicing of interviews and past film footage together to portray his slanted message. Moore will fill you with intriguing facts that will make you think and hopefully question why.

Alien gives it 3 “I don’t feel so good” stars out of 4.

The Simpsons Movie

Simpsons fans will have tons of fun watching this hilarious laugh riot where the gags fly fast and furiously from the beginning to the end. The most disappointing part of this film is sometimes the audience laughter is so loud that you can’t hear the next joke. The movie spoofs and pokes fun of so many subjects that Alien doesn’t know where to begin the list. All of your favorite characters are here behaving or misbehaving just as you would expect them to. It is way funnier and more adult than the TV series. You’ll want to see this one over and over again. Be sure to stay through the credits if you want to hear Maggie’s first word, the Springfield anthem, and the assistant theater manager’s words of wisdom.

Alien gives it 3 ½ “Home to Dome to Nome” stars out of 4.

Rescue Dawn

Based on a true story, an American fighter pilot is shot down during a secret bombing mission over Laos, captured by the enemy, and held in a prison camp. The pilot is Dieter Dengler, (superbly played by the talented Christian Bale) who is smart, determined, and eternally optimistic. This film may be hard to watch for some because of the brutalities and the hardships suffered by the prisoners. Watch these men struggle to survive as their bodies and minds deteriorate. You will be rooting for their escape and rescue. The movie's emotional ending may bring tears to your eyes.

Alien gives it 3 “survival instincts” stars out of 4.

Ratatouille

This is not a sneak preview. This film has already released.

It looks like Disney and Pixar have collaborated on another tasty winner. A very funny animated short called “Liftoff” about an alien abduction starts the presentation. At times, the featured film looked more real life than animated. The images were vivid and crisp. Like gourmet French cuisine, this film may be a delicious treat for grownups, but it may be too sophisticated for little kids. What 5 year old is going to know what saffron is? And why does a rodent living in Paris sound so American?

Unfortunately, about 30 minutes into the film, raticus interuptus… the entire theater complex was blacked out. Alien got a voucher and hopes to continue his review soon.

Sunshine

Houston, we have a problem… a huge problem…

It’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” meets “Alien” meets “Apollo 13” in this space mission to save a dying sun. Fifty years into the future, a team of 8 scientists is the second attempt to revive our sun. Sci-fi fans will be treated to spectacular images of the sun and an intriguing view of tomorrow’s space travel. See how a slight course correction can lead the crew on a path to disaster. If you are not into sci-fi, you may be bored to tears until the action gets going. Alien found the science fascinating, and the drama intense and gripping as the mission careens out of control.

Alien gives it 3 “Icarus II” stars out of 4.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

This is not a sneak preview. This film, as well as the final book, has already released.

Your favorite Harry Potter characters are back for the 5th time and there is trouble at Hogwarts. It’s ‘Wand Wars” meets “Wicked in Pink” as the student becomes the teacher in this deliciously dark and deadly duel between good and evil. There is less comedy, more danger, and more Harry. Fans won’t be disappointed.

Alien gives it 3 “expecto patronum” stars out of 4.

No Reservations

A controlling culinary chef in therapy meets an exuberant sous chef in “Hell’s Kitchen”. If you are in the mood for a classic romantic comedy setup, this is a blue ribbon winner. Catherine Zeta-Jones is gorgeous and she can cook. Aaron Eckhart is fun-loving and he can cook. Abigail Breslin is very talented and she learns to cook. The movie is a mouth watering feast for the eyes, a tasty treat where the characters search for their best recipe to living life. The film is cute, funny, and touching. A man and a woman looking for happiness and a child dealing with grief come together to make a scrumptious meal for the audience.

Alien gives it 3 “secrets to French cuisine” stars out of 4.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

Here is one for the guys. It’s “Big Daddy” meets the “King of Queens” for fun at the firehouse in this comedy about a pretend domestic partnership in order to get health benefits. You can expect the usual rude, crude, and lewd jokes by juvenile behaving males. But if you are a fan of the comedy stylings of Adam Sandler and Kevin James, you’ll have a great time. They are a couple of charming idiots. The beautiful and fabulously fit Jessica Biel (meow) is very easy on the eyes. Sprinkled heavily with cameos by SNL cast members and gay celebrities and you get a better than expected film. The shower scene is hilarious. Check your brains at the door, laugh at the stupid jokes, and enjoy the positive messages about being gay, taking care of family, and supporting your friends.

Alien gives it 3 “homopolooza” stars out of 4.

Hairspray

Grab your cans of Aquanet because big hair is making a comeback as “American Dreams” the Musical with John Travolta in drag hits the big screen. Lively songs and dance numbers punctuate this blast from the past tale that will bring back fond memories of the 60s and American Bandstand. It is a hilarious look back at the styles, attitudes, and the signs of the times. Nikki Blonsky is perfect as the sweet and bubbly Tracy Turnblad. The cast features some wonderful young talent. This is Travolta’s biggest and boldest role yet. Seeing him shake and shimmy is worth the price of admission alone. This musical is great fun and great entertainment.

Alien gives it 3 ½ “don’t dent the do” stars out of 4.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Alien was unable to score a pass or an invite, but he did managed a 20-minute glimpse of the 5th installment. It was deliciously dark, devilishly dazzling, and deadly dangerous.

Introducing the Dwights

In this quirky Australian comedy, a divorced mom/standup comedienne (Brenda Blethyn) interferes with her son’s coming of age experience because she fears it will break up their unique family unit which she has fought so hard to keep together. The film explores Tim’s awkward adolescence while he tries to manage the two most important women in his life as well as his mentally-challenged brother Mark (who is very funny and scene stealing). You’ll laugh and cry during this charming, funny, bittersweet movie. It is rated “R” for sexual content, nudity, and language.

Alien gives it 2 ½ “learning to love and let go” stars out of 4.

La Vie En Rose ( Life in the Pink )

This is not a sneak preview. This film has already released.

This biopic (in French with English subtitles) recounts the life of the famous French chanteuse Edith Piaf. Don’t worry if you never heard of her. Once you have seen this movie, you’ll feel like you know her. Marion Cotillard gives a remarkable and mesmerizing performance as the innocent cabaret singer turn diva artiste. The film is a bit choppy as it jumps back and forth in its depiction of her life from childhood to old age. You will experience her emotional highs and lows. It is a terrific period piece. Her haunting songs will take you back to France and her era.

Alien gives it 3 “sparrow sings no regrets” stars out of 4.

Once

This is not a sneak preview. This film has already released.

In Dublin, a guy with a beat up guitar meets a girl with a broken Hoover and they end up making beautiful music together. A lonely street musician struggling just to earn tips and dreaming of becoming a recording star begins his hopeful journey with the encouragement from a rose-peddling Czech immigrant. They are attracted to each other as they form a strong bond and make a creative song writing team. Two good performances here make their characters feel real and natural. You’ll soon be rooting for their success. Alien enjoyed this raw and simple story about down-to-earth people with hopes and dreams. This small and quiet film may not be for everyone, but it is filled with some terrific songs. It is an uncommon musical that doesn’t seem to be a musical.

Alien gives it 2 ½ “lyrics and harmony” stars out of 4.
